Hey,
glad you signed up - are you sure you want to go for 2vs2/3vs3 ctf? You might be better off going for 4vs4.

Building a good 4vs4 CTF map takes shitloads of time, while building a 2vs2/3vs3 is rather easy and can produce a lot of fun :).

Peace

I think the difference in time is not too big while the difference in gameplay might be huge. Was just a suggestion anyway. :)

Technically the rules do state that the map can be a 1v1 duel or 4v4 tdm/ctf or 8 player tdm (although there is flexibility in all of those). Remmeber that the maps are judged primarily on playability, so a 2v2 or 3v3 that is fun but not overly attractive to a (serious) player may result in you missing out on some crucial points.

The reason I was focusing on 2v2/3v3 is that I was considering the usability of the map outside of the competition (it's almost impossible to get as many as 8 players together regardless of which Quake it is these days), as well as the fact that that size of CTF is completely underestimated and never mapped for. But in in any case I realise now I misinterpreted that 4v4 rule as a guideline rather than a minimum player load.

It's back to the drawing board then! (first post changed)

Hm, maybe my original reply wasn't very clear. I meant to say you could do a 2v2 or 3v3 map if you wanted to, but (personally) I don't feel like it would get as much play time as compared to a smaller duel map or a larger 4v4 ctf/tdm map.

You're welcome to do the map however you want, but realize if the judges don't feel like it is very playable due to the size constraints you'll be missing out on points.

Alright, this thread started off on the wrong foot.

I made an almost complete alpha of a duel map but then realised that it was painfully bad since I'm terrible at duels :? So I've decided to scrap that idea and focus purely on Team Arena FFA, trying to achieve something with a slightly Dredwerkz feel to it. Haven't got very far at all with it yet so here's my painfully bad week 1 screenshot...

Looks good Muffin. Team Arena FFA is a very nice touch, you see a lot of TA CTF maps but not many TA FFA`s - kudos for supporting that mod. Good luck with it.

Thanks dude! Well I don't know of any TA FFA maps tbh so hopefully the map will offer something unique in the end. Still haven't done any more to the map (I've been too busy messing around with Q2 :? )

Time to post another bunch of nothing. Hadn't had much time, plus my aging harddrive is making doing any mapping a pain in the ass. Anyways...

Hoping to finally get some serious progress done next week. I have a theme and a basic layout almost done. (time will tell if I actually follow on my ideas lol)
